McKinney – Vento Homeless Children and Youth Program
The McKinney-Vento Act is a federal law guaranteeing all children and youth the right to an equal education, regardless of their living situation.
Protection under the McKinney-Vento Act extends to those who lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence.
This includes youth in shelters, motels, campgrounds, trailer parks, and those that are living with relatives or friends due to loss of housing, economic hardship, or a similar reason. Hidden homeless are also included - those who are constantly moving from one place to another without a permanent adequate nighttime residence.
